To say that DSZ did not play a vital role in bringing me where I am now, a student in a prestigious German university, would be a lie. The problem a lot of us Malaysian students face is that we deadlock ourselves in typical, tried, and true options – either going to a national university, or applying to popular education destinations like the UK, USA, or Australia.

DSZ was my bridge to study in Germany, known for its cutting-edge engineering, world-class education and strong economy. DSZ provided information through seminars and their own personal sharing that gave me the full scope of choices and possibilities available, while also giving me clear directions on what I had to do next. DSZ’s wealth of practical experience and knowledge was key in navigating the bureaucratic flood of forms and procedures required.

Through DSZ’s partner German language schools, I was assigned German teachers from the A1 to C1 levels over the course of 8 months where my patient and encouraging teachers helped me build my self-confidence in speaking and understanding German. Learning a language from beginner to university level in such a short amount of time was a difficult task, but with well-planned, intensive, and rigorous lessons, I passed the C1 exam, and was able to proceed to university!

Now, as a student at the reputable Technical University of Munich (TUM), I have to attribute no small part of getting here to DSZ’s guidance. Without their initial push and efforts to make my integration into Germany as smooth as possible, I wouldn’t have been able to gain the momentum that led me to where I am now. As a member of the TUM Hyperloop team, there is clear enthusiasm and drive in student clubs and research projects as we receive sufficient funding from the university.

I owe my thanks to DSZ and I hope they are able to help more Malaysians, who yearn for something more, find their way to Germany.

It has been a pleasure working with DSZ on my journey to Germany. It was not all smooth sailing, especially with the infamously tricky German bureaucracy, but with patience and a flexible approach, it is very much achievable.

I had the honour of being aided by two advisors each with their own distinctive fields of expertise and experience through all the complicated ABCs, which was definitely better than attempting to do it solo long-distance. I was also given a very thorough rundown of what to expect at each phase of the process. That was very important for keeping everything in perspective and mentally preparing for the next stage, particularly for the culture shocks.

Thanks to their approachability and accessibility, our communication was open, cooperative and constructive. I liked that I was not given a set template and told to stick to it, I was only given suggestions for the recommended course of action. The choice of what to do next was always ultimately up to me.

As for the language school itself, the teachers were very much invested in their work. They all have their own teaching styles, some may fit you, some may not, but it never dips below standard quality. They make sure there is balanced classroom participation, they are probably more worried about your exam than you, and they are always open to marking extra homework. They genuinely care about their students’ wellbeing and progress, which was very touching and motivating. Conflicts or problems that arose were settled efficiently and effectively. It may have been a long and tedious journey, but it passed quickly with good company. All in all, it is thanks to a lot of people that I can now say “wir haben es geschafft!” and know that it means “we did it!”

My son, Kyle, turns 16 this year and is making his debut studying in Germany. It has been an exciting yet daunting phase as we prepare our son for this next stage in his life.

I had the comfort of DSZ taking on a pivotal role in charting the education path in Germany for my son from the outset. With their deep knowledge and understanding of the technical and bureaucratic procedures, the German language and culture, the people and the environment, DSZ’s consultants were able to advise, counsel, and chart a pathway for Kyle’s education and guide him on how to assimilate into the new dynamics and surroundings.

Through the DSZ’s extensive network of business associates, education partners, schools, and host families in Germany, Kyle was able to experience a soft landing upon his arrival in Germany.

DSZ takes the initiative and goes the extra mile to make the path smoother, even at times when situations don’t work in our favour given that there are many procedures and hurdles involved. As a parent, I am comforted and relieved to have DSZ working closely together with us to make studying in Germany, which was once only a dream, possible for Kyle.
